Perimeter Calculation and Hole count

Perimeter Calculation and Hole count

Perimeter Calculation and Hole count

(OP)
I have a client that wants me to create a table on the face of the drawing that will be automatically populated with the following (most parts are flat steel of various shapes):
Inches of laser cut:
Number of drilled holes:
Number of tapped holes:
Number of parts in assembly:

Can this information be extracted from the solid model?

Tom

RE: Perimeter Calculation and Hole count

Some of it can be, maybe all.  Are you working with an assembly or individual part models?

They go about it in a peculiar way, but here goes:
The drawing calls up an assembly, and the first few pages of the drawing are views and instruction of how to put the assy together.
The later sheets in the drawing are of the detail parts that require detail views. This is where they insert views of the specific part to detail it.
At this point, they want to see how many inches of cut there is on this part, as well as how many through holes, and tapped holes.
They are trying to develop a matrix for estimating/quoting.
With this info, someone without steel or manufacturing experience can look at a drawing, tally up the different processes (laser time, tapping etc) and insert it into a spreadsheet and get a cost to manufacture.

RE: Perimeter Calculation and Hole count

I have seen a macro for calculating the external perimeter of a part but as for counting holes and taps, it may depend whether they are put in using holewizard or just extruded cuts.
