Solidworks Windows Desktop Search

I didn't install the search when i upgraded. Once i realized that i inserted the disk and installed the Search option seperatly. But even after installation its not showing in solidworks. I looked in options and searched around but i can't find anything on this problem. I don't want to reinstall the whole program again. Any advice??

"Any advice"

Yes ... do not activate it. You will soon regret it if you do. It is a resource hog and slows SW to a crawl on some/many systems.

The Search Index function can be activated from;
Windows ... C:\WINDOWS\system32\searchindexer.exe
SolidWorks ... Tools > Options > System Options > Search
SW Explorer ... Options > Search

If you do activate it, using StefanHammingas macros to start and stop it will help considerably.

cheers

I don't have those files in my system32 folder. I guess i didn't install after all. I'm going to try and reinstall Solidworks Windows Desktop Search from the disc again.

I know it slows down Solidworks. But we have so many files on uor server that we have to acsess that it is just way eaiser to do a search for whatever part we are trying to find.

RE: Solidworks Windows Desktop Search

CBL is correct. I removed mine. It slowed down my pc a lot.

Thanks for the input Eric, but i'm not having a problem with it indexing. I can't even get the Search toolbar to come up at the top of the solidworks screen or on the task plane. Its acting like its not installed. I tried to reinstall it and reboot. But still i din't install the search toolbar. I don't know what to do. I really don't wnat to reinstall SW b/c i'm afraid that my setting will be shot... But everything else i've tried isn't working.

Save you settings using the Copy Settings Wizard (before un-installing), then you will be able to re-install them after re-installing SW.

Thanks CBL. I reinstalled SW 2008 and added SW search. Thanks to all who helped! :)

RE: Solidworks Windows Desktop Search

Please post back what you think of it once you've had it running for a few days.

The search Start/Stop macros I mentioned earlier can be downloaded from the 3rd post of thread559-199391: SolidWorks Search tip

cheers
