NEMA B v.x NEMA design B vs. NEMA A

NEMA B v.x NEMA design B vs. NEMA A

NEMA B v.x NEMA design B vs. NEMA A

(OP)
Can anybody tell me if there is an actual difference between a NEMA B motor and a NEMA design B motor, or if it's just a turn of phrase. I have Baldor telling me that they can do a 10 pole motor in NEMA B and WEG telling me that a 10 pole motor can't be done in NEMA design B because design B only goes up to 8 pole. Either they are talking about different characteristics or somebody is trying to blow smoke up someplace they shouldn't. I appreciate the help in advance.

RE: NEMA B v.x NEMA design B vs. NEMA A

NEMA MG-1 defines 10 pole characteristics for 60 Hz Design A and B motors but not for 50 Hz slower than 8 pole.  Your supply frequency would determine who is technically correct in their interpretation of NEMA.
