Filler Metal between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

Filler Metal between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

Filler Metal between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

(OP)
Please can someone guide me as to where can i get information on Filler metal in ASME Books.

Filler material is between stainless steel and carbon steel
Shell - SA 240 316L
Lifting Lug - SA516 GR.70

MAWP is 10 BAR at 120 degree celcius. I think the filler material is 309 stainless steel as I read previous forums.
But is this information shared in ASME code or is it jst on experience.

Any views greatly appreciated

RE: Filler Metal between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

Shouldn't it be on the weld procedure or are you determining it to produce the weld procedure?

RE: Filler Metal between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

E309Mo-15 or 310Mo-15  will be a good choice

Try AWS SFA 5.9 E309L-18.

E309L-18

E309L-15

Oops, my typo, the last two digits should be 15 for all position welding using this filler metal.

RE: Filler Metal between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

either the 309l material or the 309lMO helps raise the mo content to more readily match the 316L chemistries

RE: Filler Metal between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

you should refer to ASME Sec. II part C for " Specifications for welding rods, electrodes and filer metal.

regards.

you should refer to ASME Sec. II part C for " Specifications for welding rods, electrodes and filer metal.

anyway it is also based on welding process performance.

Suggest that you repost in a forum dealing specifically with materials and welding

Thanks you guys and thanks littlechickened.

Apologies went out for holidays plus christmas is on the way..

Fawked- Yes it is in weld procedure but I just wanted to know if I can use something better or from where can I learn more about filler metals.

I guess now it is left for me to do lot of reading on ASME sec II -C.  smile

RE: Filler Metal between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

Try Section-II-D, Nonmandatory Appendices A.(METALLURGICAL PHENOMENA).A-440 (c).
