Need to identify special grease.

I have an in/out compressed air actuator with a rubber diaphragm, mounted between halves of simple pressed mild steel covers. It contained some rather strange looking grease within the air chamber side, which needs to be replaced during clean up and rebuild.

This grease is unusual, in that it is not soluble in gasoline. The purpose of this grease appears to be mainly to prevent corrosion of the steel parts from water condensing out of the high pressure compressed air supply.  It should also be rubber friendly.

Any ideas what this grease might be ?

If I approach a grease salesman, he will probably try to sell me whatever he happens to have on the shelf.  I would rather try here first.

RE: Need to identify special grease.

If it also repels water and doesn't wash off your hands easily, there's a good chance it's silicone grease.

Ah! yes of course.  Thank you Mike, I should have thought of that.

Another idea has since occurred to me.  The compressed air braking system in trucks probably uses something similar.
