Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

(OP)
I can output from Pro/E 2001 to AutoCAD but everything is placed on the 0 layer.

Is it possible to ensure that everything is placed on its original layer?

RE: Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

How do you do what you do, in the first place?
I am not a pro/e or autocad user, but people often come to me for ANY computer question because I am a computer guy.
So, somebody here is trying to go from Pro/e to Autocad, but he says that Pro/e does not export DXF, which I verified in somebody else's instance of Pro/e  where the "Save a Copy..." pop up dialog did not offer to save as *.dxf.

thanks for any hints you may offer.

RE: Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

gsal,

check in the drawing mode, not model

RE: Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

Pro/E will only save as the drawing to DXF, not the model.

RE: Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

Yeah, you guys are right.

One thing that seems possible by looking at the save options in Pro/E and read/import options in Autocad is that ACIS (*.sat) format may be used to do Pro/E -> Autocad.

RE: Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

Are we talking about models or drawings?

There are config and / or dtl layer options.  I'd have to dig
thru Help and experiment to come up with and verify any specifics.

For models: If I were going to guess; ACIS probably doesn't support
layers, IGES might be a good bet, STEP maybe but it would have
to be verified that Autodesk's STEP import routines support them.
(You also have to confirm the recipient has IGES and / or STEP
import capabilities.  They aren't universally included with plain
Acad.)

For drawings: If I remember correctly there's a way to configure
that will keep everything on original layers and individual layers
are created for each part (part1_layer_blahblah, part2_layer_blah...)
if it's an assy drawing.

RE: Converting from ProE to AutoCAD

I am not sure you are going to get what you want when exporting a proe drawing out in either dwg or dxf format.

While the layer names come across into Acad , they seem to not work the way you would think they would. You can get a idea as to what's happening if in Acad you use the layer icon and switch from "all" to "show all used layers".

Maybe your best bet is to use the Acad properties window to set to a name that came across or work views etc. to new name or what ever it is you're wanting to do.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear and hopefully it's not some massive drawing but it might get you to where you want and the Properties box does work pretty sweet.

I have had better luck using iges out of model, but alas Autodesk decided to make Iges an add on option $$ after r12. I think was 12.
