Material Specification/Equivalency

Material Specification/Equivalency

Material Specification/Equivalency

(OP)
I recently came across a drawing specifying
J-20 Steel or equivalent.  Does anyone have any
information on this type of steel?  My research
has currently turned up very little, other then
I believe that it is a type of tool steel but beyond
that I am not having much luck.

RE: Material Specification/Equivalency

It's a Japanese material specification.  I don't have the books available at the moment, but if you find the specification books you can find what kind of material it is.

RE: Material Specification/Equivalency

I have the BSC Iron & Stell spec's and all the Japanese (JIS) spec's start with a capitalised 'S' followed by further capitalised letters and/or numbers. There is a J55 under the API spec's. Hope that helps,

RE: Material Specification/Equivalency

I wonder if this is a Jominy number indicating the
hardness of the material rather than a steel number.
