Surface behavior, penalty

(OP)
Hi forum members.

Has anyone here used *Surface behavior, penalty? I have an axial fitting simulation of shaft seal that is held stationary. I usually use *Contact pair to define contact between the deformable seal and analytical rigid shaft. The problem with this one is the primary lip gets horribly bent as I try to install the shaft (move downwards with less than 1 mm interference). I checked the dat file and has been advised to use *Surface behavior, penalty.

How do I incorporate this in my input file? Do I use it with *Contact pair in the initial step? Do I use this to change the contact pair definition in Step-1? Please advise.

thanks in advance,
jo
