Upgrading Workstaions for SW2008/09/10...
(OP)
Hi all,
I'm working with machine building company in Dublin, Ireland. We're looking to ypgrade our computers. Our current ones are Dell Precision 350's. The latest model in the Dell range seems to be the T7400. I'd like to know can anyone recommend another brand.
Our minimum specs are as follows:
RAM - (4 GB is what we'd like although we heard the system needs to be 64 bit with 4gigs. Can you check this out)
Graphics card - For SolidWorks (Eg. NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500 ,NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400, NVIDIA Quadro FX 3450 )
Processor - something mid to hi end in the Xeon range
Would also like some flat scrrens (19" at least) with them.
Could get them as seperate parts, i.e. HP workstation and a Samsung monitor.
Heard that SolidWorks 2009 will need Vista so we'd be getting this also.
Hope we can be pointed in the right direction.
God bless,
Phil.

You could get a FX 1700 for instance. Video card is easily updated later on, the rest of your system usually not. Optionally the faster FX 4600 can be used. The new FireGL cards are very promising as well.
Lots of new CPUs coming out currently. That said, previous advice of getting the fastest dual core still stands.
