Heres the deal, Full QEC from a KC-97 on the big QEC stand.
The guy says he has haulled it on a flatbed gooseneck trailer rated at 14k lbs, behind a 3/4 ton. Not sure of trailer specifics, as far as tire size bed height etc. I guess what I need is a vertical CG location of the complete unit, then of course the trailer it is chained to facters in. I would like to know the max side tip angle before it falls over. If anyone has experience with this please give some suggestions. Thanks

RE: Need asistance from the older prop days people

I'm not familiar with that particular installation but most radial engines had a vertical CG near the centerline of the propeller shaft when mounted horizontally. Can't help if it's being shipped vertically (propeller shaft pointing up).

RE: Need asistance from the older prop days people

KC-97? Is that the Wright 3350 with the power recovery turbine?

If you don't mind me asking, why are you worried about it "tipping over".

RE: Need asistance from the older prop days people

The KC-97 is the 4 prop radial pison with outboard turbojets.  I worked on them in the Air National Guard before the KC-135's replaced them.
I don't have any tech orders or data on it.
Maybe someone at Davis Monthan (sp) AFB in Tucson Az would have data.

RE: Need asistance from the older prop days people

you ask for the vertical cg of the plane ... pretty hard to be definite, but I'd say about the middle of the wing (ie between the upper and lower wing surfaces).

fwd/aft cg position would be approximately 1/4 chord (1/4 of the distance from the leading edge of the wing to the trailing edge.

i'm not sure about the empty weight, 14000 lbs sounds pretty low to me

The poster is asking about the CG of the Quick Engine Change stand.  (QEC)
