Solidworks Macro-Help!

Solidworks Macro-Help!

Solidworks Macro-Help!

(OP)
Hello
I am looking for some advice!
I have recently started reading
Automating Solidworks 2006 using Macros-Mike Spens
I would like to ask if anyone knows how to open a
DWG
then save (as same file name)
as a SWORKS PART
easily using a macro?
I have hundreds of DWG files that I need to convert to PRT files with the same filename and I feel a macro would be the best way to do this
PLEASE HELP!!!
Holly

RE: Solidworks Macro-Help!

Sorry, but I really doubt a macro would be able to help you there.  If anyone could write code that could reliably translate 2-D DWG files into 3-D files without human intervention they could make a billion dollars the first year.

RE: Solidworks Macro-Help!

hollywhite ...

Are you trying to open 2D DWG (drawing) files or 3D DWG (solid part) files?

Are you wanting to save them as SolidWorks 2D drawing files (.slddrw) or solid part files (.sldprt)? ... and as solids or sketches?

cheers

Thanks both of you yes handlemen you are very true! I just saw
a cool article on sending 2d conversion work to third world countries to educate them in CAD- nice cos I f "£$ing hate converting stuff!

Cor Blimey Limey!
Thanks I am bringing in 2d dxf and changing them into 3d parts a very simple process just tedious!

RE: Solidworks Macro-Help!

To make a macro that just imports all the dwg:s into a shetch on the top plain is not so hard, then the extrusions is another matter.
Maybe you have many different kinds of similar objects and would get better results in making a dynamic part representing many of your sketches in one part?
Like a screw, one part can handle all dimensions and sizes...
This kind of design also makes the drawing part easier to regenerate later. but thats just if you have similar things with smaller differenses in your design

RE: Solidworks Macro-Help!

Importing 2D into a 3D part is not THAT of a simple process, depending on the part. You will find it probably easier and faster to recreate the parts in 3D from the 2D dwg dimensions.
