Word-embeded autocad object not recognized

Word-embeded autocad object not recognized

Word-embeded autocad object not recognized

(OP)
It is very common for me to copy-paste autocad drawings into word and excel, and i do not save another .dwg of the drawing but the final .doc file with the embeded drawing.

Recently when i double-click to edit SOME of the drawings, Office recognise the object as unknown !!! And i cannot convert to its original form. So i am stuck with an uknown object wich i cannot edit !
Specifiacally i get the message :

"The server application, source file, or item cannot be found.Make sure the server application is properly installed, and it has not been deleted, moved, renamed or blocked by policy"

Any hints please ???

RE: Word-embeded autocad object not recognized

Your problem may be different, but that's the kind of message you get when you 'embed' a file (by storing a link to the file, not the file itself), and then move or rename the file that you 'embedded' or the directory that it's stored in, _or_ change the location of the 'server application', i.e., AutoCAD.

IOW, when the 'face' file, in this case the Word doc, is opened, Word has to look for the AutoCAD file to open, and it has to look for AutoCAD to open it.  The AutoCAD file itself is not actually included in the Word doc, nor is the ability to open it included in Word.

Yeah, 'embed' is really the wrong word to use.

Exxit, Thanks a lot!!!Problem Solved.

Mike, i think that word actually embodies the autocad drawing because when i move or copy the file it is still there and you can right-click edit it. There is no link.
It doesn't matter now, my problem is solved. Thanks anyway.
