same basic dimension, different tolerance

same basic dimension, different tolerance

(OP)
i am recreating a driveshaft in SW8.  The original drawing shows part of the shaft is 12mm dia with a g7 fit, and then it transitions to 12mm dia with a k6 fit.  SW does not like dimensioning two lines end-to-end with the same value, even though the tolerance is different.  Any idea how to represent this part accurately?

RE: same basic dimension, different tolerance

Simplest way is to model the shaft so that the diameters are very slightly different (say 12.00000000 and 12.00000001).

cheers

... or maybe create a small undercut at the transition.

Use a Split Line.

RE: same basic dimension, different tolerance

You could sketch lines on the drawing view and make them collinear with the shaft silhouette.

Somehow you will need to designate where the transition is axially.  You could do this by sketching a line, or by using split line as previously mentioned.

Using split line will put the definition of the tolerance zone in the model.  If you only want the zone defined in the drawing, use sketched lines.
