Auto Create PDF

Auto Create PDF

Has anybody running PDM had any success with the feature that automatically creates PDF's on check in of a DRW in SW 08 SP 1.0

RE: Auto Create PDF

What do you mean by success? The thing is, you can't see the PDF directly in the vault. After have created the PDF, upon check-in, right click on the slddrw and select "show pdf".

Chris-
'08 gives you the option to create a pdf at check-in. However, as you can see from my previous post, it doesn't do it as one would want/expect.

RE: Auto Create PDF

You can make a macro that prints a PDF and then saves.  This can be assigned to a button in the tool bar.  Here's the first have of that option:

It would be an easy matter to add a save as... msgbox line to the end of the code.

Thanks Jeff. I have not tried. I have Acrobat Pro. I'll give it a shot.

Jeff,

I have that feature turned on and I understand how to get to the PDF's. But oddly enough, when I check in a drawing there isn't a PDF created. If I use task scheduler to mass create the PDF's then my option to view them as PDF works as it should.

RE: Auto Create PDF

Dekker,
That's strange, and doesn't make sense. Have you talked to your VAR? It may be a missing dll...

I haven't brought it to our VAR yet, I'm waiting to see how the feature performs on our standard workstations, which are running a different OS. As the would be the first time the capability is used if it doesn't work I'll be the only one who misses it. And since it is supposed to run in the background no one will know the difference.

RE: Auto Create PDF

Dekker,

I have SP 1.0 installed here and have tested the Auto PDF creation capability in PDMWorks 2008 and found it to be working fine on the files that I tested.  I really think this was a fantastic addition to PDMWorks in 2008.  I only wish that PDF's for DWG files could be handled this way.  We have roughly 7,000 released drawings in DWG format and would like to provide them in PDF automatically as well.  I have submitted an enhancement request and would ask others to do this as well.
