Higher power dissipation alternative for 2N2222A NPN

Higher power dissipation alternative for 2N2222A NPN

Higher power dissipation alternative for 2N2222A NPN

(OP)
Hello,

I have a zener circuit with an emitter follower NPN transistor buffer. I chose the generic 2N2222A which has an ambient power dissipation of 625mW in a TO-92 package.

Does anyone know of a similar device that has a 1W ambient Pd (possibly in a TO-18 or TO-39 package)? Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Regards,
George

Check out some of the Zetex products. The E-Line package is similar to a TO-92 - smaller in fact - and seems to have a maximum dissipation of 1200mW. There are dozens of hits in the parametric search.

Hello ScottyUK,

Thank you for the feedback. I will be looking at Zetex.

The 2N2222A comes in a TO-19 AND a TO-39!

If you have room, go to a transistor in a TO-220 case.  TO-39's at half a Watt get hot enough to brand you (well at least hot enough to make you squeel if you accidently touch it).
