STEEL PLATE DEFLECTION....

STEEL PLATE DEFLECTION....

STEEL PLATE DEFLECTION....

(OP)
HELLO, I'M NEW HERE... I HAVE A QUESTION I WAS HOPING SOMONE COULD AIDE ME WITH... WHAT I NEED IS A FORMULA PROCEDURE FOR THE FOLLOWING SENARIO... I HAVE 4  STEEL PLATES, "THKNESS AND TYPE VARIES FOR THE PLATES" THAT IS WELDED TOGETHER TO MAKE A STEEL RECTANGULAR BOX BASICALLY... IN THIS BOX WILL BE A FLUID AT ANY GIVEN PSI... WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW IS HOW TO CALCUTED MY DEFLECTION AND ALSO AT WHAT POINT I WILL NEED TO ADD SUPPORT OF THAT MATERIAL AT A PSI GIVEN.... ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRICIATED...

RE: STEEL PLATE DEFLECTION....

use a 3D computer program.  If it is a tank then the psi should be higher at the bottom.  Or just be conservative and say the steel palate is simply supported with distributed load.  You know the modulus of elasticity of steel.

I WOULD USE A 3-D PROGRAM, BUT I'M MORE INTRESTED IN AN EXCEL PROGRAM... I KEEP AN ARCHIVE AND I NEED TO ADD THIS CALCULATION TO IT... THANKS FOR THE RESPONCE

RE: STEEL PLATE DEFLECTION....

Formulas for Stress and strain, by Roark and Young offers equations for stress and deflection of rectangular plates with various load cases.

RE: STEEL PLATE DEFLECTION....

MATNEYARCHENG,

How catastrophic would a failure of your box be?  Will there be property damage?  Personal injury?

If this were a bucket with a couple of liters of water in it, you would not be asking us questions.  It was a good idea for you to ask.  At some point, most of us have to step back and allow a qualified professional to take over.  It sounds like you are there.
