NEMA 7, IEC 60529 equivalent

(OP)
I have some vendor information that states that the panel will be compliant with NEMA 7 enclosure.  In our spec it calls from explosion proof and compliant with IEC 60529 IP65 rating.

I've found that a NEMA 6 enclosure is roughly comparable with an IP 67 enclosure.

Does a NEMA 7 enclosure exceed a NEMA 6 enclosure in terms of liquid ingress protection?  Or are they two different kettle of fish, i.e. one is to do with hazardous area and one is to do with immersion?

RE: NEMA 7, IEC 60529 equivalent

jghist, you didn't read down far enough. The hazardous location enclosures are listed near the end of the document.

Quote:

Type 7    Enclosures constructed for indoor use in hazardous (classified) locations classified as Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, or D as defined in NFPA 70.
davva, you are correct water ingress has nothing to do with the NEMA type 7. Many NEMA enclosures have multiple "types." They each stand for a different set of test conditions. In other words, a specific enclosure may be designated as type 6, 6P and 7.

jghrist,

It's there in the document you linked, on page 5. Comes right after Type 13, of course.
