HOW TO GET DOD/NASA ADVANCED COMPOSITES DESIGN GUIDE???

HOW TO GET DOD/NASA ADVANCED COMPOSITES DESIGN GUIDE???

HOW TO GET DOD/NASA ADVANCED COMPOSITES DESIGN GUIDE???

(OP)
Can anyone help me find the DoD/NASA Advanced Composites Design Guide?  It is a four volume set originally prepared by Rockwell International for one of the US Air Force; I believe the most recent set (or one of the more recent sets) was published in 1983.  I've googled with no luck at all.  The woman at my office who usually gets papers and things can't find it either--striking out with her sources at the AF labs and DTIC as well.  It is almost as if this document never existed at all or it's been wiped clean from the earth.  Anybody?

RE: HOW TO GET DOD/NASA ADVANCED COMPOSITES DESIGN GUIDE???

I was interested enough by the title to sniff around a bit.

Via this link I ascertained Rockwell may have had some ownership of the publication.

Googling 'Rockwell advanced composites" gave me this link.

Could the document be related to NASA SP-8108?  Doesn't seem to be the design guide though...

Yes, Rockwell prepared the document some years ago under contract.  As far as I can tell, a recent complete edition is the 4 volume set of 1983.  I am still looking for a source to obtain the document.  The sp 8108 is not it, but thanks a lot--that's one for my archives.

RE: HOW TO GET DOD/NASA ADVANCED COMPOSITES DESIGN GUIDE???

If you work for a US defense contractor, you should be able to get the 4 volumes from DTIC. There is a Public database and a Private database. Any one can access the Public, these documents don't show up on the public. Some companies can access the Private database, and all 4 documents can be purchased there (cost is $125, $45, $45 and $125 for a total of $340). We have access because we have an SBIR with the US dept. of defense. You may some other way to get into this database.

there's also the MIL HDBK 17, composite materials handbook, that might be useful to you. It can be found on the Internet, free.

It's funny you mention this.  Just today I got word of this public/private thing at work.  The woman there who gets me papers and journal articles says we have an account, so it sounds like we should be able to get it.  I'm told it's 3000 pages total.  Do you know if they have a pdf version available?  I sure hope so; otherwise that's a lot of paper taking up precious little cube space at work.

Thanks a lot.
