Underconstrained model with BEAM44 and SHELL63

Underconstrained model with BEAM44 and SHELL63

(OP)
HI,
I'm analysing a frame where the members are beams BEAM44 and the flat plates are areas SHELL63 at right angles to the beams. i.e. one plate either side of the beams holding the plates together

I'm holding the keypoints in all DOF for the beams where they meet the flat surface area of the plates which are all subject to gravity.

ANSYS tells me the model is underconstrained, I've tried loads of different criteria to solve this to no avail.

Do I need to specify some kind of contact between the keypoints of the beams and the flat plates even though they are on the same plane? How do I do this? can anyone help?

RE: Underconstrained model with BEAM44 and SHELL63

Hi

How do you generate the beam44 elements and Shell63? because you can select the edges of the plate to generate the beam44 elements?

Thanks dude, yes it was a pretty basic problem!

I had to attach BEAM44 elements in the Z plane to the middle of SHELL63 plates in the xy plane but I never divided up the plates to create keypoints to which I could attach the beams.
