Can anyone advise on what SAW/Flux combination is suitable for welding SA-203, Grade E. The weld must be able to achieve impacts down to -150F.

Many Thanks

Recommend ENi-3 with Thyssen UV421TT  or Soudometal Record SNi Flux. Bohler Thyssen's flux trade designation may have changed. Advise contacting Bohler for appropriate trade designation.

You may also try Lincoln's Linconweld MIL800 and ESAB's Unionmelt 651 VF. Again, I advise contacting both of these companies as well for confirmation.

I don't know what you're building or who speced out the material.  Here, we try to to talk users out of the 203-E materials for several reasons.  One is the lack of availability.  The other is economics.  I can't speak for the rest of the world, but for here on the Gulf Coast of the US, stainless steel is more economical to build with less bothers than a-203-e for general services.  Maybe your process requires it, I don't know.  But it is definately worth a look as an option.  We used to see it often in copying or replacing existing vessel in gas industries such as demethanizers, and deethanizers where the gas flashes and gets cold.  In these services t-304 ss is just plain easier here.

vesselfab,

I agree with you totaly, however the material is customer supplied and we have no option. The 203-E is for a pqr, the actual supplied material is A350-LF3 which i think is cheaper than stainless at the moment.
