LA - PE License by comity - Questions

LA - PE License by comity - Questions

(OP)
I’m ready to submit my application for licensure as a professional engineer by comity from the State of Louisiana. At present, I’m licensed PE in the state of Ohio since 1990. I like to hear any comments and/or suggestion from anybody that has applied for comity from Louisiana for a professional engineer license. Thank you in advance.

RE: LA - PE License by comity - Questions

Louisiana was pretty easy to get registered in.  It is even easier if you have an NCEES Council record.

I appreciate the reply. I will investigate establishing a personal NCEES Record for future application. I have visited the NCEES web site and downloaded some information. This web site can be accessed at

RE: LA - PE License by comity - Questions

I'm a licensed engineer in LA.  I believe the licensing by comity process is fairly simple with LA accepting licensures from any of the other states.  Getting the license should be just a matter of filing the paperwork and waiting for it the get processed.  The NCEES Council record mentioned is great to have if you need licenses in other states.  The NCEES process takes about 3 months depending on how fast your references reply.  Once you get the NCEES record is really speeds up the process of getting licensed in another state.  I got a Virginia license in 2 weeks.  Being registered as a model law engineer by NCEES help speed up the process in Virginia.  The LA website is www.lapels.com.

RE: LA - PE License by comity - Questions

Most states have similar requirments and I found establishing an NCEES record makes comity applications quick and painless.  I think Kentucky gave me my license in like a week but some states still take a few weeks for an actual board hearing.

I wish to express my appreciation to all that have posted supportive suggestions. I did obtain my PE in Louisiana. I had one little setback, that being I fail to pass the Rules and Laws Quiz on the first try. Thanks again.

RE: LA - PE License by comity - Questions

I forget which state it was for (VA or DC, maybe) but I think I sweated that exam more more than the original PE exam!

Congrats to you!
