holes series

holes series

holes series

(OP)
Beginner - I am having problems with my holes not showing up in the part drawing of my model when I create the holes in the assembly model.  Lets say I open a new assembly with a flat plate. then insert a bearing block part drawing from my vendor.  I locate it. Then add holes using Hole wizard. Every the looks correct except when I save the assembly it does saves the holes in the parts model only in the assembly model.  Any suggestions.

RE: holes series

You need to have the part being worked on in edit mode.
RMB on the component and select Edit Part.

cheers

Thanks for your fast response.  I have tried that before - the problem I have with method is I cannot snap to center of the hole imported part.  How do you snap to other part.

RE: holes series

wjgreen,

I am reading your original message carefully.  Are you inserting the bearing block part drawing, or the bearing block part model?

If you insert the bearing block part model into your assembly, you should be able to edit the part, and use the holes in the bearing model for location.

As CBL notes, you need to be in part edit mode.

I add holes at the assembly level when I want them added at the assembly level, and I don't want them to show up at the part level.  I like the way SolidWorks does this.

RE: holes series

If you just use the hole wizard to add a feature into an assembly,  you are merely adding it at the assembly level. To re-iterate,  you must select the part to edit and turn on the "Edit Part" function. Or,  you can pull down the "Insert" menu,  scroll down to "Assembly Features" and from there choose "Simple Hole", "Wizard" or "Hole Series".  I know the "Hole Series" feature is defined at the assembly level and actually acts on a part level,  so the holes you put in an assembly will show up on your individual part model. I have not used the other two but I believe they work the same way,  just do slightly different things.

Hope this helps
