How to Hold Pipe from Inside?

How to Hold Pipe from Inside?

How to Hold Pipe from Inside?

(OP)
Is there a device that can grab a 3" aluminum pipe from the inside?  It would be like a chuck that expands to hold it from the inside.  The purpose of this is so that we can rotate it and laser etch the outside.  Thanks.

RE: How to Hold Pipe from Inside?

Can you just use a small lathe chuck?  Maybe a McMaster-Carr #33135A22.

Don't understand the question. Any normal lathe 3-jaw chuck with stepped jaws will do this. You can put it on a rotary table if you like.

Benta.

Would an expanding mandrel do what you require?

RE: How to Hold Pipe from Inside?

Something built like an internal pipe wrench will work nicely, and much faster than a chuck.

Thank you for the all the suggestions.  I've learned that the laser etchers are using a delicate rotating table so there are weight limitations to the device.  I think we will go with a mini lathe chuck with three stepped jaws like some of you mentioned.  Cheap and simple.  Thanks again.
