SOLIDWORKS BOM (SLDBOMTBT) DECIMAL TO FRACTION

SOLIDWORKS BOM (SLDBOMTBT) DECIMAL TO FRACTION

SOLIDWORKS BOM (SLDBOMTBT) DECIMAL TO FRACTION

(OP)
I have modified my solidworks bom table (sldbomtbt) to pull information from equations in my part models.  My model unit is set on fraction but the equation folder in the feature tree of the file converts the information to decimal and that is how they are showing in my bom. How can I convert this information back to fraction form?

RE: SOLIDWORKS BOM (SLDBOMTBT) DECIMAL TO FRACTION

You can, but you'll probably have to take some more steps.  If my following guess is wrong you will probably need to elaborate on exactly how you are "pul[ling] information from equations [your] my part models", but I'm going to guess that you are:

1. Creating a "Global Variable" in your part file.
2. Linking a Custom Property to this Global Variable.
3. Referencing this Custom Property in the BOM.

The problem, as you have seen, is that the equations are in decimal form.  They don't have the option of converting to fraction.  Dimensions can be displayed as fractions, although the underlying, driving value is still stored by SW in decimal form.  If you link your Custom Property value to a dimension rather than a Global Variable then you can take advantage of the fractional display.  If you don't have any dimensions with the same value as your Global Variable then you will have to create one.  The dimension can be driven by or linked to the Global Variable.

You are absolutely correct in your assumption of how the links are set up.  Unfortunately the global variables are set up in the templates as a means to save design time.  We don't wish to change that aspect.

To follow up on handleman's suggestion, you could create a sketch in your model template that has lines whose lengths are linked to your global variables.  You could then link your custom property to these dimensions.  After all of this is set up you can then hide the sketch.

This works great!  Thank you
