Is it possible to customise the balloon shapes in solidworks
or to create custom shapes?

RE: custom balloon shapes

You could make blocks and use them as balloons.  Do you need them for BOM callouts?

RE: custom balloon shapes

Go to Tools > Options > Document Properties > Detailing/Balloons and select from the options listed.

cheers

tick

Yes i need to use them for BOM Callouts. Can I do this with blocks?

RE: custom balloon shapes

What shape do you need other than the standard shapes?

i need to create a spit balloon that is "squircle" (hope you understand the terminology)

RE: custom balloon shapes

I'm not having any luck getting a block text or attribute to take on BOM item#.

RE: custom balloon shapes

If you want it to link to BOM, you need to use the "standard" balloons.

RE: custom balloon shapes

I believe the nearest you will get is to select None for the balloon style (which will create a leader and Item # ... like a note) and then position a block around that.

I don't know of a way to add more balloon shapes to the existing ones. Submit an ER if it is that important to your company.

cheers

RE: custom balloon shapes

If you add a balloon without a border and then double click it and type in <SC#-1> this will add your squircle. This will also show up in a SW BOM and be linked. The only problem is that it doesn't auto update. Perhaps someone can improve on this.

RE: custom balloon shapes

felix7502 ... Interesting! Where did you learn that little snippet from? Are there others?

cheers

RE: custom balloon shapes

Yes, interesting...where did you find <SC#-1> ?

RE: custom balloon shapes

I changed the balloon to text, double clicked, and added a symbol from the text format box. All the symbols contained there have their own designation and you can create addition ones. I believe I contributed to a FAQ by CorBlimeyLimey to this effect.

RE: custom balloon shapes

Ahh, I see. It's just a symbol not a balloon.

Yes, you had contributed to FAQ559-1229: How Do I Create Custom Symbols? but not the Square-Circle one. I had forgotten those symbols were already listed in the Add Symbol option.

cheers

RE: custom balloon shapes

Symbol library coding ....... hes calling for included square-circle flag symbol #2 out of the symbol library.

Its similar to typing in <MOD-DIA> to get the diameter symbol out of the modifying symbol library.

Addt'l examples.....
<SC#P-5>  will get the 5. square-circle symbol
<SCL-G> results in the G square-circle symbol

similarly ..
<T#P-3> calls for the triangle flag with the included 3.

After adding any symbol to an annotation, right-click it and choose 'Edit text in window' to see the coding.

Remember...

your going to have to use your feet."

RE: custom balloon shapes

Wow - did I have that window open for a while ....

RE: custom balloon shapes

I have not used those for a couple years. Forgot all about them.

RE: custom balloon shapes

CorBlimeyLimey-
It is a symbol, but it will also be linked to the Item No. in a SW Bom. I tried with an Excel Bom and it appears, but then is hidden. Maybe a little equation would make it show up? or update?
Sylvia

RE: custom balloon shapes

It shows in a SW BOM Table also. Basically it is just overiding the BOM Item cell with an annotation.

cheers

RE: custom balloon shapes

thanks for the squircle felix
