CARBON STEEL TUBESHEET CLADDIND WITH TITANIUM
CARBON STEEL TUBESHEET CLADDIND WITH TITANIUM
(OP)
Hello all,
We intend to clad titanium B-338 Gr 12 on both sides of CS tubesheets A-105.
Does someone have experience with such an operation? can I get details etc.
regards,
roker

Are you looking at a welded build up and then machine the tube sheel face?

RE: CARBON STEEL TUBESHEET CLADDIND WITH TITANIUM
we intend to clad the shell side of the tube sheet against corrosion, the tube side of the tube sheet is Ti cladded since we want to make a seal weld but since the tubes are Titanium it can not be welded to the carbon steel tube sheet so we clad with Ti only for welding.

Now a question; are you planning to roll full length to prevent the crevice corrosion mentioned in a post above? And if so, since you can't (shouldn't) actually roll all the way out to (and especially past the end) of the tubesheet are you planning to clad thick enough to have a rolling margin at the shellside of the tubesheet?

This is getting a little goofy and probably too expensive...
A tubesheet clad and welded on both faces generates thermal discontinuity stresses also
Have you considered a plate-frame HX with TI plates and either an all- welded design or one with viton gaskets ?

These are somewhat expensive, but are a proven design that can stand up to most services ..
