Viewing Configuration Used in PDMWorks Vault Tree?
(OP)
Hi all,
I did a few searches here and read through some results that were very informative but they didn't quite address what I need to find-out. So, I hope I am not asking something that has been posted about many times.
We use SW 2007 and PDMWorks. We use part configurations primarily to manage things like screw length. So, for example, 110478 refers to a Flat-Head Phillips #2-56 screw. Within that part are configurations that set the length with a two-digit number for the length in 1/16s of an inch (e.g., 110478-06 refers to a 0.375 long screw). We use a design table to control the length. Now, The "Alt Name" fields within the file contain the dash numbers for each configuration so that on BOMs we can tell how long the screws are, and this matches our inventory system (again 110478-06 shows-up on the BOM and points to the appropriate number for the Purchasing Dept. to buy).
Now, when I am looking at the PDMWorks vault tree I would like to be able to tell which particular configuration (e.g. screw length) is used within a given assembly or subassembly. All that is displayed now is the basic part number (e.g. 110478). In order for me to know how long a screw is used, I need to get a local copy and open the assembly. Not a huge deal, but so many other things seem so convenient to do, I figured there must be a way to do this as well.
I hope this is clear and I will appreciate any tips or advice!
Best regards,
Eric

In PDMWorks, right click and select PDMWorks Workgroup options. On the label tab, turn on descriptions. In your case it may be names.
RE: Viewing Configuration Used in PDMWorks Vault Tree?
Thanks for your repsonse! I turned on all the options including both the description and name fields and those fields of info did come-up, but no configuration info.
But, digging around a little more makes me think that the problem is with the way we are using the vault. I think I have to ask our administrator to look into using the "Choose 1 custom property to display" field so we can select the part number from the configuration speicifc fields in the documents. This is where that data (configuration-specific part "number") really is anayway and I think that may then be the only way to expose it in the vault tree view. Right now, for me, that option to select a custom property is grayed-out.
Thanks, I appreciate your tip!
Best,
Eric
