Rigidized vs. Flat Beams
Rigidized vs. Flat Beams
(OP)
Greetings all,
I'm looking for some info regarding weather the stiffness and natural frequency of a beam are improved by rigidizing and if so, why. I've looked all over the net and I'm not having much luck. Thanks for your help.

Stiffening a beam of course generally increases the natural frequencies, unless you are adding a lot of mass in the process.

RE: Rigidized vs. Flat Beams
I was wondering what would happen to a rectangular solid aluminum beam's natural frequency, if it is initially fixed at both ends, then its fixed length is increased (ends still fixed)? The loadings are the beam itself and a wind load at the thin side and flowing over the longer side, like an air foil placed on sides of a wind tunnel.
