machine accuracy ?

machine accuracy ?

machine accuracy ?

(OP)
Hi All,
Does anyone know what/how the measuments for machine
accuracy are taken and the difference between machine & position accuracy.
What is VDI/DGQ 3441 and how are the measurments taken, do any any manufacturers release radial accuracy at various speeds or is this aready part of these standards. Of particular interest is Bystronic,Trumpf and Amada.

Thanks
       Steve

RE: machine accuracy ?

I'm not an expert on this, but did work on a project where we had to test and prove machine accuracy and repeatability.
We had a vendor perform measurements with a laser interferometer on the machine axes as we commanded them over a known distance. The measurements showed how far the axes actually moved.
We did steps of however far, (100mm?) to show that the actual positioning was correct over the range of motion.
We did this for each individual linear axis.
To show coordination, we cut circles in sheet metal, measured the slug and the hole. The roundness and smoothness showed interpolation quality. The difference between inside and outside (at multiple locations around the circle) showed that the kerf width was constant.

That's a quick overview- anything else?
Regards
Jay
