I am looking for someone who is an engineer on battery technology.  AGM technology preferably.  I have some questions about the gassing or corrosion effect of this technology.

RE: battery engineering

Well why not ask the question and see if you get an answer

ok, my question is this:  Lead acid batteries tend to cause a corrosive action on positive lead post if gasses are emitted over time.  I would like to know if going to a AGM type battery, if one could use copper or brass posts instead of lead, or if one could attach copper or brass connectors to the lead posts and eliminate the corrosion effect altogether.

RE: battery engineering

Your basic question has some problems...  If an AGM is gassing, or has leaking seals, even brass or copper will corrode.. Operation in high humidity and temperature environments agrevates this.

BUT, a properly managed AGM will not be gassing externally  (lifting the pressure relief vents). Gas recombination in an AGM is fundamental element of its design for a very important reason.. to prevent the electrolyte from drying out, causing early life failure.

If it's operated within it's design parameters, you won't have gassing. To learn more about gas recombination in AGMs read this.. http://www.tms.org/pubs/journals/JOM/0101/Nelson-0101.html
