Pump Selection for Petroleum Distillate

Pump Selection for Petroleum Distillate

Pump Selection for Petroleum Distillate

(OP)
I am trying to select a pump for a calibration fluid distribution system.  The fluid is a petroleum distillate, used to test automotive fuel system components.  Required volume and pressure are relatively low, maybe 10 GPM and 40 psig.

Aside from material compatibility, what are the considerations for selecting a pump in this type of service?

RE: Pump Selection for Petroleum Distillate

Beyond required head, material compatibilitiy, and operating temperature you really have to know your fluids.  Are they easily damaged in shear?  Are they prone to separation in a centrifugal motion?

If you've answered those questions you have to back up to your process as a whole (e.g., will the uneven mixing inherent in pulsating flow cause you a process problem?, are the pressure/flow requirements constant or do they need to vary with time?)
