A350 LF2 - material properties

A350 LF2 - material properties

A350 LF2 - material properties

(OP)
Hi

I'm looking for the mechanical properties of A 350 LF2.

And what is  important where are this properties written in the ASME Code, for reference?

Thanks for the help.CLaude

RE: A350 LF2 - material properties

Claude47 - you'll find LF2 in ASTM A350. It's a low alloy steel with specific low temperature impact properties.

RE: A350 LF2 - material properties

Oops! I didn't include any data!
C  0.3 max
Mn 0.6-1.35
P  0.35max
S  0.040max
Si 0.15-0.30
Cr 0.30max
Mo 0.12max
Cu 0.40max
Cb  0.02max
V  0.05max

TS   485-655MPa
YS   250MPa
El%  30
Cv   20 or 27J (Class 1 and 2 repectively)

As with all this type of data you should check it against the current issue of the ASTM standard before putting it to use.

RE: A350 LF2 - material properties

Also note that the test temperatures for Class 1 and Class 2 are different.  Class 1 is to be tested at -50 F where Class 2 is 0 F.  Depending on where the material is to be used this can have a significant impact.  No pun intended.

I came across a case a couple of years back where the Class was not specified and the owner recieved Class 2 valve bodies and not Class 1 as was implied but not explicitly stated in the purchase documents.  Needless to say impacts at 0 F are not sufficient for the Alberta Oilsands Projects.

RE: A350 LF2 - material properties

LF2 is a 0.3%C/1%Mn steel. Properties are:
TS   485-655MPa
YS   250MPa
Elong  22%
RA   30%

Cv at -45.6 deg C  20J (Class 1 material)
Cv at -18 deg C 27J (Class 2 material)

All data should be checked against the relevant issue of ASTM A350.

RE: A350 LF2 - material properties

In the ASME Code, properties are listed in Section II, Part A and Part D (design allowables).
