for wideflange column pinned base plate (A307 anchor bolt inside) what is the minimum anchor bolt edge distance?
6d or 4d

how about bolt to bolt center to center distance distance?

i'm sure 4d for edge distance a307 bolt ( based on anchor bolt design for petrochemical facilities) but couldnt find it in aci..

also the bolt to bolt per aci is 4d.. my previous company uses 5d.. but i couldnt find this to aci as well..

RE: min. edge distance a bolt

If I'm not mistaken, CISC doesn't specify a minimum edge distance of anchor bolts, they leave it to the engineer's judgment. Same could be for ACI.

RE: min. edge distance a bolt

I'm not aware of any such minimum edge distance requirement.

RE: min. edge distance a bolt

edge distance is based on bolt shear capacity

RE: min. edge distance a bolt

Edge Shear Rupture Strength

Brb = 0.75 (0.6).t. 2(e - d - 1/16).Fu

"anchor bolt design in petrochemical industries" states 4d as minimum edge distance for a307 anchor bolt..

although aci has a lot of formulas per bursting, shear edge, etc..

can anyone tell me the standard practice for bolt to bolt distance for pinned support (inside column)...

this is for those with experience with piperack design..

thanks,

RE: min. edge distance a bolt

for bolt to bolt distance as pin supports, the foloowing is from standard drawing of Fluor and Jacobs

175 mm for W14 and more
150 mm for W12
130 mm for W10
100 mm for W8
