Noise generation from leaking gas

Noise generation from leaking gas

Noise generation from leaking gas

(OP)
Does anyone know calculation methods for the following?
a) Methods for estimating the noise generated by an un-ignited release of high pressure gas, eg we have a hole in a pipe and gas comes out how do we estimate the noise this generates
b) Methods for estimating the noise generated by an ignited release of gas, eg we have a hole in a pipe which releases flammable gas which then burns. Again how to estimate the noise generated - I guess this last one will be like a flare stack

RE: Noise generation from leaking gas

chemicalseddon,
you should probably contact a Company providing NDE services.
As far as I remember from my Level 2 LT (Leak Testing) Operator training to EN 473 and ASNT-TC-1A standards, there is an acoustic emissions method and an Espert in that fied should easily answer your questions...
       See, for example: http://www.ndt.net/article/az/ae_idx.htm

Hope this helps,                 'NGL
