PDMWorks Workgroup

PDMWorks Workgroup

Hi all,
We finally got our upgraged to SW Pro and have a PDMWorks question. How do get PDMworks to work within the SW session? It was in the addin's a few versions back, but can't find to add in the toolbar. PDMworks works when I open SW Explorer, but can't get to run with SW.

Thanks,

Not working sir, that's the problem. I don't see PDM in the add-ins. Kinda weird. I'm assumming it's on the computer because it works when I open SW Explorer.

It was an Admin Image that our IT group put together. PDM works on my machine, but not my colleagues.

RE: PDMWorks Workgroup

Assuming that all your licenses are for pro, and that you guys are all running the same systems, I'd say that part of the install didn't go correctly (I hope that wasn't a "duh!" statement). He might need to reinstall...making sure that AV is turned off.

RE: PDMWorks Workgroup

I would try removing SolidWorks Explorer locally and reinstalling.

Thanks all, let me look into this and I'll get back if I still have a problem.

Uninstall SolidWorks Explorer on your computer.  Reinstall SolidWorks Explorer from the DVD or CD's by going to the Other Tool button, then picking SolidWorks Explorer.  In the selection screen that comes up, select SolidWorks Explorer and PDMWorks Workgroup Add-In.  The default appears to be just SolidWorks Explorer.  SolidWorks Explorer by itself does have PDMWorks inside of it, but that option does not install PDMWorks as an add-in by itself.

IT doesn't know the difference when they install, I'm guessing.  You may wish to let them know, or do the proper thing and take control of software installations for engineering tools out of their hands. :)

fsuper,
A star for you. I was telling IT about the "Other Tool" button, and how PDMWorks was inside there and need to install it. This comfirms my statement, and will pass this thread onto them.

I wish I could take control, but won't happen here sir.

Have a good T-day everyone.

Thanks,

RE: PDMWorks Workgroup

macduff,

Try this fisrt... Go to the add remove programs under the control panel and find the SolidWorks Explorer entry.  Click on it and click change.  This will go through the install process.  Under add/remove components add the PDMWorks Plug-in.  I seem to remember the PDMWorks plug-in not installing at first, so this had to be done.  Not exactly obvious to the end users.

oops - took to long to post - got sidetracked with someone here.  Right on fcusper.

RE: PDMWorks Workgroup

pdybeck,

You are right, sometimes.  This solution doesn't always work.  I've guessed this is so because SolidWorks may have been originally installed from an image file that wasn't configured properly to begin with (didn't include PDMWorks Add-in when creating the image file).  Either way, because this doesn't always work, I default to just using the method I listed above.

macduff ...
When you get hold of the DVD, copy it to a folder on your machine. Then when the install asks for the DVD you should be able to re-direct it to the folder.

But the better way would be to have IT add the correct scripting to the Admin Image.
