OSHA Standard Systems Paint Colors

OSHA Standard Systems Paint Colors

OSHA Standard Systems Paint Colors

(OP)
I am trying to standardize the systems paint color coding in a number of steam plants we just aquired. Does OSHA have suggested color codes for systems like natural gas, liquid fuel, city water, steam, etc?

Thanks for the help.

Regards,
Jerry

RE: OSHA Standard Systems Paint Colors

OSHA lacks such color schemes for the piping.  Some operating companies have standards.

If you search the various standard organizations you will find colors at gasoline terminals, and dye colors for liquid hydrocarbon products, colors for wiring insulation, etc.  A recent post indicated that some marine color identifiecations exist.  Search for that thread.

Jerry,

In my experience, OSHA does not have color identification scheme, but ANSI does. The ANSI A13.1-1981 Scheme for Identification of Piping Systems addresses your concern by offering a common labeling method for use in all facilities

See this link:

The shade of the color and the location of piping system labels is also important.

The labeling and marking scheme become much more important in a refinery than in an old power plant....

Which plants have you just purchased ?

Are you just designating piping or safety areas of the entire plant ?

RE: OSHA Standard Systems Paint Colors

The specification is found titled ASME A13.1-2007, Scheme for the identification of Piping Systems.  ASME A13.1 referemces AMSO Z535.1.  I had the standard saved and now added the word color so that I can find it again.

RE: OSHA Standard Systems Paint Colors

I jumped a few keys so interpret AMSO as ANSI.  However, searching I find that this is also listed as NEMA Z535.1-2006, American National Standard for Safety Colors.

RE: OSHA Standard Systems Paint Colors

Try Federal standard 595 and Mil-std-8526 this should take you into links for these items
