Condenser Approach

Condenser Approach

Condenser Approach

(OP)
Good morning to you all! My question for today is: As long as I maintain a 1.2 degree F approach on my condenser, does it matter what value do I set my Cooling Tower's TDS at? Again, thanks for all your input on this one.

RE: Condenser Approach

Sorry, need the acronym. TDS?

RE: Condenser Approach

TDS = total dissolved solids  (I'm assuming)

Well, yes it does matter, because the line between acceptable water quality and a fouled condenser depends on your water temps and other variables. It's a line you can cross very quickly.  Give yourself a cushion!

RE: Condenser Approach

As RossABQ said, maintain your TDS at the proper level.  You may be able to maintain your degree of approach at light loads and then once the condenser fouls you will not be to obtain the desired degree of approach at higher loads.  By then it is too late and you have a tough time restoring the condenser to original performance.
