IRC 2006 Masonry Veneer Support

IRC 2006 Masonry Veneer Support

IRC 2006 Masonry Veneer Support

(OP)
In the IRC 2006 R703.7.2 Exterior Veneer support, it states that if you support masonry veneers with wood or CFS beams/headers you have a deflection criteria of 1/600. My questions is at the begining of this section it states that this is valid except in Seismic Design Categories D0, D1, and D2. Does this mean that if i am in one of these SDC's I am not allowed to support masonry veneer with wood or CFS?
Or does this mean i need to look elsewhere for requirements?

Any help would be greatly apreciated....

Thankx in advance.

RE: IRC 2006 Masonry Veneer Support

It means that if you want to use the particular verneer in other SDCs that its anchoring and support is outside of the prescriptive requirements of the IRC and the design must be engineered.
