API 510 Section 7

API 510 Section 7

API 510 Section 7

(OP)
Helo,

I have to rerating a pressure vessel which was alterated by welding in one of its nozzle. API 510 section 7 show the details to doing the reparation and rerating. Can I do the rerating if the welding was done without following the instructions of this section?
In 7.2.7 (Design) mention a temporary repair, can I consider my welding like that?
If I’ll do a metallographic, ultrasonic and visual inspection on my welding by an authorized pressure vessel inspector, can I consider that API 510 will accept my rerating?

Tank you, grammatico

RE: API 510 Section 7

(OP)
the vessel was designed by ASME VIII Div.1 1998 to 2000

RE: API 510 Section 7

Rerating involves calculations per 7.3 a. Was the nozzle addition made without calculations and as a result do you need added reinforcement? If so, simply add the reinforcement required.

RE: API 510 Section 7

(OP)
The alteration is not a reinforcement, in fact, the nozzle doesn’t need a reinforcement. I am talking about a replace of the original welding. The problem is that the new weld procedure isn’t exist.

RE: API 510 Section 7

So why are you rerating? If you welded in the new nozzle without a qualified welding procedure, write a Nonconformance Report defining such and stating that you will qualify the required procedure as the corrective action, obtaining concurrence of the Owner's Inspector. Once the procedure has been qualified, sign off on the Nonconfomance again obtaining concurrence of the Inspector.

RE: API 510 Section 7

(OP)
Yes, but I am looking for another alternative, my intention is obtain the acceptation for API 510 of this welding.

RE: API 510 Section 7

API 510 doesn't accept anything. The owners Inspector does.

RE: API 510 Section 7

(OP)
In API 510 7.2.10.- said: “Substituting nondestructive examination procedures for a pressure test after an alteration may be done only after a pressure vessel engineer experienced in pressure vessel design and the authorized pressure vessel inspector have been consulted.” How can I contact an authorized pressure vessel inspector?

RE: API 510 Section 7

The Inspector is the Owner's Inspector in possesion of an API 510 Certificate. Refer to 4.2.
