Silp On Flange with RTJ

Silp On Flange with RTJ

Silp On Flange with RTJ

(OP)
Is there a standard for Slip On flange with RTJ Gasket seating face?

Does B 16.5 address this combination?

Rating 1500

Size 4"

Material ASTM A 105

RE: Silp On Flange with RTJ

bmoorty,
B16.5 ed 2003 shows in top of Table 5, page 64, the slip-on RTJ flange and is listing the 4", 1500# flanges details, including the R39 groove number...
cheers,
gr2vessels

RE: Silp On Flange with RTJ

bmoorthy,

ASME B16.5-2003 Tables 20 and F20 (Dimensions of Class 1500 Flanges) list dimensions for slip-on flange up to NPS 2 1/2" only. Therefore, a 4"-1500# RTJ SO flange is not a "standard" B16.5 flange.

RE: Silp On Flange with RTJ

Doki, try turn the page, Table 20 continues the next page. Please also note that bmoorty is looking for RTJ flanges in Slip-on type, which is not very visible on top of Table 5.
cheers,
gr2vessels

RE: Silp On Flange with RTJ

Class 1500 slip-on flanges that are greater than NPS 2 1/2" are not covered by ASME B16.5. They would be special or non-standard (i.e. ASME VIII-1 Appendix 2 design). Why use a non-standard slip-on flange when standard B16.5 WN or LJ flanges are available?

RE: Silp On Flange with RTJ

Doki, please turn the page.

RE: Silp On Flange with RTJ

gr2vessels,

What do you expect me to find by turning the page? Does your copy of ASME B16.5 have "B" and "Y" values for slip-on flanges beyond NPS 2 1/2" on Table 20?

Have you looked at the sketches above Table 20? What does it say for slip-ons? Doesn't it say...Slip-on Welding (NPS 1/2 to 2 1/2 Only)?
