Can any body recommend a lab to do resonant column testing?

RE: Resonant column testing

NVcaster,

Not exactly sure what you are after. Is this some type of non-destructive test?

RE: Resonant column testing

GeoTesting Express, Boxborough, MA.  I've worked with them before--a quality lab.

The test is to determine Dynamic Shear Modulus of Soil (G).  I am also interested in other test methods to determine G and material damping ratio of soil if any body has suggestions.

RE: Resonant column testing

NVcaster--

I'm assuming that you're talking about laboratory methods?  There are several field options as well.

For low-strain lab determination of G, the res column is the most widely-used, and the only standardized test.  Other options are ultrasonic pulse tests or piezoelectric bender element tests.

For high-strain G, lab options are cyclic triaxial test (ASTM D 3999 or 5311), cyclic direct simple shear (not standardized, but advanced labs--such as GeoTesting Expr--are capable of performing) or cyclic torsional shear test.

RE: Resonant column testing

Fugro Consultants in Houston, TX has a top notch lab and runs resonant columns routinely
