(OP)
I have a problem with an obsolete White Rodgers sensor. I would like to use it to shut off a system. It is wired in place and I have no information about the thermostat upstream. When looking at the face, I am trying to identify the thermistor. There is a small goldish foil covered component sticking out that I think is it.
Is it possible to in some way short across the terminals of the thermistor and tell the system to shut off without damaging anything?

Thanks for any info. White-Rodgers were completely unhelpful.
