Does a Tag Number change require up revving a drawing?

Does a Tag Number change require up revving a drawing?

Does a Tag Number change require up revving a drawing?

(OP)
A change in requirements caused a vessel to be re Tagged.  There has been some discussion as to whether or not this constitutes an engineering change.   My feeling is that it is a drawing change and the revision is for the drawing regardless of the content.  So, any change to the drawing requires an up rev.

My colleague contends that up revving the drawing implies an engineering change.  If I follow that line of logic then the drawing should be up revved anyway because the tag number appears on "other documents and systems".

Unfortunately, I cannot find any standards or contract requirements to resolve this.

RE: Does a Tag Number change require up revving a drawing?

Does the drawing specify exactly what goes on the tag (i.e. SERNO 12345) or just that certain information is contained on it, whatever the exact info may be?  If the drawing does not specify the exact info, I'm inclined to agree that a drawing change is not needed.
This is based on the limited info presented.

I agree with ewh. If it shows on the dwg, revise it. Depending on the info, it may just be a minor rev.

The drawing does not specify the requirements but there is a contractual requirement for how equipment get tagged.  This is in fact why the equipment was re-tagged.

RE: Does a Tag Number change require up revving a drawing?

Change the drawing, change the rev.

Simple as that.

RE: Does a Tag Number change require up revving a drawing?

I concur as MintJulep so eloquently put it! (Kinda sounded like my old drafting supervisor! *G*)

RE: Does a Tag Number change require up revving a drawing?

From the surface of things, it doesn't seem as though the drawing is even a factor.  Do you feel some content on the drawing should be changing?  Are you using a PLM that requires a revision to role?

Does the drawing specify a tagging method different than the contract?  If so, revise.
