I need a Temp. Controller

I need a Temp. Controller

I need a Temp. Controller

(OP)
I need a simple, cheap temp controller that uses a thermocouple and gives (or stops giving) voltage at a pre-set temperature.  The omega single display controllers are way overkill for what i need.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

RE: I need a Temp. Controller

If you need just one or two then the cheap single display controllers are a great way to go!

How else are you going to set the setpoint?  Provide power?  scale the output?  Provide thermocouple referencing?  Calibrate the results?  Set the process value?

RE: I need a Temp. Controller

Radio Shack used to sell white plastic, digital temperature controllers for about $20. But if I recall correctly, they used a tethered diode as the sensor.

RE: I need a Temp. Controller

Thermocouple controllers are not cheap because of all the things mentioned above. The requirement for a cold junction reference means that an rtd or other thermometer is incorporated in every thermocouple thermometer for it to work.

If you want cheap go for a thermostatic switch.

RE: I need a Temp. Controller

Good grief a2dkid, that switch costs as much as a controller!

Try a simple bulb and capillary thermostat. Chech out www.selcoproducts.com
