Hot water recirculation

Hot water recirculation

Hot water recirculation

(OP)
I installed a recirculation pump for the hot water.  the design I used was the closed loop that returns the hot water from the last bathroom to the heater.  the system is not working.  I have done all the tests but I can get it to work.  I entered the heater through the cold water inlet using 2 check valves, one after the pump and another in the cold water pipe.  The house is three stories high and the highest point is at 11.00 m from the heater.  Any ideas?

RE: Hot water recirculation

You must pressurize the system with enough pressure to reach the highest part and have an air vent (manual or automatic) at most if not all high spots.

I have a pressure pump in the main pipe (cold water) of the house so all the lines are with pressure. I have it right now 30-45 psi.  and, what do you mean by air vent?
thanks

RE: Hot water recirculation

How did you get the air out of the system?

I loose the universal joint that holds the pump and let the water pass trough getting all the air out.  after that there should be no more air in the line, because is a loop.

RE: Hot water recirculation

Not quite sure what you are talking about.

Are you talking about a recirculating pump on the hot water supply, or are you talking about a recirculating pump on the heating supply.

1. Check that the pump is working.

2. Check that the check valve is installed the correct orientation. It should have a flow direction arrow on it.

Don't know if you are aware of it, but you can accomplish the same thing without a pump. If you install a loop, the thermal heat from the supply side will make the water recirculate.

RE: Hot water recirculation

The hot water in one leg and the cold water in the other leg cause the fluid to move.
