Does anyone have any reference or design examples for designing bearing blocks for the end of metal plate connected wood trusses?  I am curious as to how others design the connection of the block to the truss bottom chord.  Thanks.

I have a multi-ply girder and I see that your detail is for a single ply truss.  The procedure they use seems very straight forward in calculating the required nailing for the block.  What would you do differently for a multi-ply girder truss?

Nothing, except that the allowable end reaction is multiplied by the number of girder plys. Normally, if the end reaction is so great that your over-stressing the bearing area, then chances are you could have other problems as well, Such as high deflections. We try to avoid cheating with girders, so we  will just go ahead and add another ply to the girder truss. For common 24" o/c trusses, we'll try to convince the installer to install the bearing blocks on site.

I agree with TVL76 I have also used the Mitek details for years now.  Another thing to keep in mind here on the east coast typically trusses are built using SYP and the wall top plate is SPF.  So you have a bit more work to do then just meet the minimum bearing length on the truss drawing.

Also some truss companies will play games on interior bearings and run a vertical web straight through the bottom chord creating a bearing parallel to grain condition for the truss to save from adding plies or bearing enhancers.
