Cleanliness of piles

Cleanliness of piles

Cleanliness of piles

(OP)
What is the approved method to prepare a reinforced concrete pile for either a pile cap or grade beam?

The concrete piles in question have re-bar protruding from the pile cap, but I am concerned about the amount of residual soil remaining on top of the pile prior to pouring the cap. These piles will be supporting 40 ton cranes and my contractor does not seem concerned about the cleanliness of the pile "tops". Any advice? Are bonding agents typically applied to the top of the pile?

RE: Cleanliness of piles

Bang exposed rebar once with 2 lb hammer.  Then place concrete.

RE: Cleanliness of piles

It's not going anywhere pour and it will be fine.

RE: Cleanliness of piles

If you're really worried, blow it out with compressed air.
