Sizing a Ball Mill

Sizing a Ball Mill

Sizing a Ball Mill

(OP)
Our company is looking to replace our current ball mill and I was just wondering if anyone had some insight (websites, books, personal knowledge) on the topic.

I noticed a thread from last year on roughly the same topic but no specific answers.

Here is the basic information:
Feed size: 15mm - 11.25mm
Product size: 0.1mm
Bond's Work Index: 13.73-13.5 kwh/t

This is for a Lead/Zinc flotation plant.

Cheers,
Erik

PS- We are looking to feed the mill at roughly 30 tph

RE: Sizing a Ball Mill

There are several books and web pages on Bond index: One of the best ideas is to contact a mill supplier like Metso (metso.com) and ask them for one of their all inclusive mill operators handbooks (excellent material that is given away for free.

Mill Power/short ton = (work index (10/sqrtproduct -10/sqrtfeed)

In your case W = 13.6*(10/sqrt100-10/sqrt15000) in microns

W= 13.6 *(10/10 - 10/122.5)

W= 13.6* (1 - 0.0816)

W = 13.6 * 0.918

=12.5 KW * tonnage = 375kw/hr or 500hp

There are other factors such as power loss on belts gear box and/or pinion, size factors etc but this will put you in the ball park
