Surfer to AutoCad Contouring

Surfer to AutoCad Contouring

(OP)
I am contouring data points (water level elevations in monitoring wells) using Surfer 7.0, and ultimately incorporating the contoured data into AutoCAD LT.  My current procedure is as follows:

I generate a Post Map/Contour Map Overlay in Surfer, then export as a DXF file.

I then open the DXF file in AutoCAD and convert it to a DWG file.

Finally, I insert the DWG file into my basemap DWG as an XREF with BIND.  The end result is a contoured map of my data in a DWG format.  However, it is a very large file for relatively few (under 25) data points.

My question is, does anyone know of a simpler or more logical way of taking Surfer contouring and placing it into an AutoCAD DWG format?

Thank you for any assistance or comments.
