Alkaline Rheostat for AC /DC Generators Loads

Hello Every Body,

Now I am working in a Test Center Project and I am interested in to know about the Rheostat`s Manufacturers or other way to load generators in a shop in order to perform Load Test.

Thanks For the Inputs

Petronila

A favorite around here is salt water in drums or dumpsters.

It might work well for a shop as the sizes can be all over the place and one set up will work.

RE: Alkaline Rheostat for AC /DC Generators Loads

I have used water and sodium bicarbonate or carbonate in a metal tank with a second tank and automobile radiator/fan and a small pump. Three electrodes made of 2-inch copper pipe 30-inches long were mounted vertically about 2-inches above the bottom of the tank. Solution level is adjusted by transferring water from one tank to the other using the pump. In operation, the pump circulated water from the in-use tank thru the radiator. All tank penetrations were made low on the tanks, so no splashing/aeration takes place. I used 55-gallon drums with open tops. The high pH keeps rust away. I was able to full load a 180 kw  unit with do trouble. If unable to get to full load with the electrodes fully submerged, just an more carbonate. If overloaded, expose some electrode by lowering the water, using the pump to transfer to the other tank.

Google "Liquid Neutral Earthing Resistor". There are still a lot of LNER's out there in older substations.
